Debbie Taverner has dropped 4 dress sizes by following a healthy living plan


To say I’m feeling thrilled with my success at a healthy living plan, is a complete understatement, but I know without doubt that I  couldn’t have stayed on track without the total support of Lesley, and all the wonderful ladies who attend her class.

I was diagnosed as being pre-diabetic at the end of 2014, not surprising really as I was weighing in at the heaviest I have ever been, around 15.5 stone. The diagnosis was a real wake up call, and there and then I decided that my lifestyle had to change.

It wasn’t difficult to understand why I’d got so heavy, quite simply I was eating all the wrong things, drinking alcohol most days and doing no exercise at all.

Easy & sensible changes

So I made a few immediate changes, I stopped drinking alcohol Monday to Thursday and tried to cut out white bread, goodies and processed food. This did have an instant effect and I was delighted after just a couple of months to be told I was no longer pre-diabetic.

But I wanted more, and the great news for me was that I moved back to Enfield in mid 2015, I knew that despite still feeling very negative about myself I could at last re-join Lesley’s classes. (I had been a member in the early 2000’s and been Slimmer of the Year, having lost 4 and a half stone). There was no doubt in my mind that I would be welcomed back like an old friend, with no judgement on the fact that the weight had piled back on and I was right!

I started off slowly by attending two or three classes a week and eating around 1500 calories a day, I didn’t want to get on the scales, mainly because I didn’t want the numbers to be an obsession. However, I realised at the end of 2018 having lost around three stone that I needed a kick start.

In her usual encouraging way Lesley cajoled me into weighing in again, and thank goodness she did!

What works for me

I now eat around 1200 calories a day, I also decided to attend a Body Blitz class, (yes it’s hard, no I still can’t do it all) and Pilates along with my three Dance Aerobics sessions and goodness has it had an impact – not just on my weight loss but my shape as well!

I have lost two stone since November, and a total of 4 inches from my boobs, 4 inches from my hips and an amazing 6 inches from my waist.

Overall I have gone from wearing a size 18/20 in 2014 to a size 12, and Yes I  feel great!

Thank you Lesley and all of you wonderful class members, still a little way to go but in no doubt that I’ll get there!
